There are medals and trophies up for grabs for both Individuals, Teams and Schools; so get a School and / or regional team together and make it a sports trip to remember...and remember everyone gets to finish on the same blue carpet as the elites (who you can watch on the Sunday)

With a range of events on show... there is something for all aspiring athletes.  Race start is on Ngamotu Beach, with the swim in the sheltered port area, the bike and run use the paths and roads in the surrounding location.

Schools Triathlon - Individual and Teams

Friday 29 March am

A traditional triathlon with a swim, bike and run leg (distance varies by age groups.).

  •  May be raced as an individual or teams (each team member completes one discipline before tagging the next person)
  • Distances vary by age group (see below)
  • Teams must all be the same gender (all boys/all girls)
  • Road bikes or mountain bikes allowed

T1T2 Transition Relay - Mixed or All Male or Female (New)

Friday 29 March pm

Testing the sharpness of our transition skills, where races can be won or lost...as seconds count!  Each team member completes in super short run/bike/run before tagging their next team member. (distance varies by age groups.).  This event is ALL about speed and accuracy in transition.

  • Teams maybe two females and two males OR four males OR four females.
  • Age group determined by the oldest team member (as at 1 Jan 2019)
  • All four team members either one school or maximum two schools from the same region (for championship points).
  • Mixed teams from more than two schools or not the same region may race but will not qualify for Tri NZ points.
  • Road bikes or mountain bikes allowed

Team Tag Relay - Mixed or All Male or Female

Saturday 30 March am

The future of Olympic team relays debuting in Tokyo 2020, each team member completes all three disciplines of a short triathlon before tagging their next team member. (distance varies by age groups.).

  • Teams maybe two females and two males OR four males OR four females.
  • Age group determined by the oldest team member (as at 1 Jan 2019)
  • All four team members either one school or maximum two schools from the same region (for championship points).
  • Mixed teams from more than two schools or not the same region may race but will not qualify for Tri NZ points.

Equipment Checks

Bikes must be roadworthy and meet Tri NZ rules.  If you require any assistance when you arrive in New Plymouth please visit Mitchell Cycles who will be able to help you with any repairs.  Tri NZ Technical Officials will check your bike complies with the Tri NZ rules on entry into transition, but this will not constitute a safety check. (See FAQ's and race brief for more detail)

  • Late entry fee applies from 22/03/19
  • Athletes require Schools permission prior to entering and competing
  • Event is governed by Tri NZ, if you are not a current member (usually via club) then a one-day race license must be purchased.  For more details see FAQ's on member benefits.
  • Age group is taken as at 1 Jan 2019, any automatically calculated on entry.
  •  Competitors must be 10 years or older.
  • Schools may submit bulk entry (contact us for details)
  • Online entries will be open until midnight 26th March.  After this you can still enter the event but this must be done at registration and you will be required to pay cash.
